If anyone waiting for the announcement of the new interim president was hoping for a decent night’s rest, they were sadly disappointed. After hours of watching news stations, scrolling through Twitter, and waiting outside the Rotunda, the UVA community got their answer at 2:39 a.m. this morning: the Board of Visitors (with 12 “yes” votes, 1 “no” vote, 2 abstentions, and 1 absent member) has chosen Carl P. Zeithaml as UVA’s new interim president.

For those of you who don’t know him, Zeithaml has served as Dean of the McIntire School of Commerce for the past 15 years. He was recently reinstated for another 5-year term this past April. He also has served as Director of Dollar Tree Stores, Inc. since 2007.

Specializing in strategic management, Zeithaml has also taught Management classes in UVA’s Comm School. According to Ratemyprofessors.com and The Course Forum, he has received very positive reviews from his students. Larry Sabato, Director of UVA Center for Politics has called him an “outstanding dean and leader” on his Twitter account.

We hope that Zeithaml’s experiences and credentials will aid him in serving his newly appointed position.
