So, Let’s Talk About Three Days Grace.
Three Days Grace is an alternative/metal/post-grunge band from Canada. Years ago, when I listened to the radio at night, the local rock station always played at least three of their songs: “Home”, “I Hate Everything About You”, and “Just Like You”. I remember being interested in song writing at this time, and I believed that all song lyrics had to be complex. Just like Weezer, Three Days Grace has songs that have really simple lyrics but are still good. The following is the first verse from their song, “Home”:
I’ll be coming home just to be alone
Cause I know you’re not there
And I know that you don’t care
I can hardly wait to leave this place
And, there you go.-
Really, it’s the way the artist sings the lyrics instead of how “complex” the lyrics are. Adam Gontier, the lead singer of this band, is obviously filled with rage in this song. For, he’s yelling about how much he dreads going home throughout the whole song. The rhythm guitar in the background plays heavy power chords, which gives the meaning and lyrics of the song an angry tone. (In my hippie voice) It’s all about emotion, man. This song isn’t too heavy, but it’s good enough.
I used “Home” as an example, but my favorite song by them is “Just like you”.
On Friday, I’ll discuss another artist whose drum playing (not lyrics) is simple, but epic music to my ears.
