On Saturday October 13, Relay for Life UVa had its Fight Cancer 5k on Grounds raising over $2600 in its fight against specific types of cancer.
Local organizations provided food and samples including Bodos Bagels, Starbucks coffee, Smoothie King and Old Spice to energize the runners. There was a table with ribbon pins to wear and support the cause.
Students were encouraged to hold a sign and write, “why do YOU relay?” for their pictures to be posted to spread the word and their personal opinions. There was also a table with purchasable merchandise to raise money for the fight.
Student turnout was impressive. The run across Grounds and through the neighborhood caught the attention of the alumniat UVa for the homecoming football game as well as fellow students.
Don’t worry if you missed out! There are plenty more ways for students to get involved in the fight against cancer. If you want to do something simple, you can “Like” Relay for Life at UVA on Facebook or follow them on twitter @realyforlifeuva.
