Seal Team Six: The Raid on Osama Bin Laden is a feature-length film set to air on November 4th on National Geographic, just two days before the 2012 presidential election. The film will chronicle the raid in Pakistan that ended in the eventual killing of the al Qaeda leader, Bin Laden, on May 1, 2011.
So where’s the controversy? The film will be distributed by Harvey Weinstein—an avid supporter of President Obama’s re-election. Critics think that this film may sway voters towards Obama because the capture was the crowning event of his campaign.
However, National Geographic Channels’ President Howard T. Owens tells the Hollywood Reporter, “We wanted to be the first to bring this story to the news… We’re not trying for this to be a political film. We have a fall schedule coming out and we want to be able to promote that schedule… Our audience has a real passion for U.S. militaristic history: This is a great opportunity to attract new viewers to our schedule.”
What do you think about the upcoming film?
