Hauntings 2012: Apocalypse Brown
This year, like the past several years, Brown put on a Haunted House for charity. This year’s was the most successful Hauntings ever, since we raised over $6500 for “The Haven”, a non-profit organization that works with the homeless in Central Virginia and provides services to them. Not only was it a success because we raised so much money for a great cause that directly benefits the Charlottesville community, but the weather was perfect for some great scaring! I would have to say that if I were to compare this year’s event with last year’s, the weather made all the difference, because the atmosphere was much more conducive to putting on a good show.
Not only the weather was amazing, but the rooms were fantastic as well. My favorite was the Weeping Angels room (insert Dr. Who reference here). The lighting was superbly timed so that the faces lit up at exactly the right moments to really scare the living daylights out of everyone. I was actually frightened of being grabbed by an angel and thrown back in time to live out my life in an earlier era.
The third aspect that made Hauntings so spooktacular was the people, and not only the people running the event, but the people going through the Haunted House as well. You guys made our long shifts more enjoyable. I can remember some seriously funny quotes from Saturday night, including one said by a little boy.
Guide: “Try not to touch the jungle and the jungle will try to not touch you.”
Little Boy: “Like girls?”
Dad: “Yes, eyes only, no hands”
It made my night.
Anyway, if you didn’t make it out this year, you’d better come next year. It is on the list of things to do before you graduate and I guarantee you’ll have a good time.
