Summer So Far
I can describe it in one word: Hot. So, being the bum that I am, I’ve stayed out of the heat when I’m able, reading books (I finally got around to reading the third Hunger Games book), watching movies, and catching up with friends. Unfortunately, this won’t last long. Yes, that’s right; I am a Summer Camp Counselor yet again. By the end of June I will be cleaning up milk spills and taking kids on bathroom breaks for the third year in a row.
Honestly, being a Camp Counselor is one of the best jobs you can have. It teaches you a lot of life lessons like how to deal with authority figures (your bosses and the children’s parents) and how to be an authority figure. It’s also a great job to teach how to work with all different kinds of people; not only kids, but co-workers too. Most importantly, it’s taught me how to be great at making things up on the spot and how to have difficult conversations. Kids get bored and kids make bad decisions, but you can’t just yell at them; you would get fired. So, you have to discipline them in a way that is appropriate, and that is never easy.
So, to all of you Camp Counselors out there; I feel your pain and your pride.
